Pete The Cat Who Never Loses His Cool

If you haven’t yet met Pete the Cat, it’s time to get introduced!

Pete the Cat

Pete is a guitar-playing, white shoe-wearing blue cat, and the star of the Pete the Cat books created by James Dean and Eric Litwin.

There’s a unique history behind Pete the Cat. Artist James Dean first created the character in 1999, and in 2006 he self-published the book The Misadventures of Pete the Cat. Litwin then wrote a song and story about the cat, and the two joined teams to create Pete the Cat: I Love My White Shoes.

The song and story are about Pete’s new white shoes, which get mucked up as he steps in strawberries, blueberries and more. But Pete never loses his cool – whatever he steps in, he keeps on walking and singing his song. Pete the Cat: I Love My White Shoes was self-published in 2008 and sold a whopping 7,000 copies in less than one year. It was then picked up by HarperCollins. Today, the Pete the Cat collection includes picture books, song books and books for learning readers with over 10 titles!
